Burglary
Special Correspondent Dubuque TimesWEST UNION, Sept. 1
The quiet of this pleasant Sabbath morning was somewhat distuirbed by the report on the streets, that the notorious Dick Arthur was at his old pranks again, and that he was in jail.
On last Friday night the store of Bunton & McNevin, at Fayette was robbed, and as Dick was in Fayette on Friday, he was suspicioned at once and closely watched. Last evening he was seen going out of town towards Fayette, and the Sheriff and Deputy followed him up about half way to Fayette; they then put their team in a burn and hid in a corn field. After waiting about an hour, Dick and a companion were seen returning with a buggy laden with clothing. The officers came in behind, secured their team, and went nearly to West Union, got an assistant from a farm house, and just in the edge of town effected his arrest. Dick's companion gave his name as Jim Thompson from St. Paul.
Dick is terribly crest-fallen, and well he may be, for he is in for it this time.
The whole transaction was badly managed for a man of Dick's reputation and experience, and his protestations of information are now proven to be, what a majority of the people of this town already believed them to be, a cloak to cover greater crimes.
