Saturday September 17, 1904, was
gala day to be remembered with great
pleasure for a life time by the survivors
of the A. B. Dickey family, of near
Westgate, Iowa.
In March, 1855, A. B. Dickey and
wife and family came from Indiana
county, Pennsylvania, to Fayette county,
Iowa, and entered the 160 acres
which was to become the pleasant
home and beautiful and bountiful fields
of the increasing Dickey family.
Mr. and Mrs. Dickey were the parents
of 14 children, 7 of whom preceded
them to the great beyond. The
father died in October 1882, and the
mother in November 1887. The 1/4 section
has ever since entry from the government,
been in the Dickey name,and
now belongs to E. H. Dickey who has
a fine large house, steam heated and a
lovely home, and to this place the
seven survivors met for a reunion after
separation of 40 years since all were
together at one time.
Mrs. M. M. Fox, Oelwein, Iowa,
has 10 children.
Mrs. E. C. Corbly, Sunger, California,
age 63, has four children.
Mrs. Judge Callahan, Lamar, Missouri,
age 60, has four children,
Mrs. Clara Fox, Westgate, lowa, age
58, has five children.
Mrs. L. C. Tucker, Waterloo, lown,
age 54, has two children.
Mr. E .H. Dickey, Westgnte, IOWA,
age 52, has four children.
Mrs. G. K. Sparling, Arcadia, Kansas,
age 49 today and very fittingly
celebrated her birthday and family reunion,
has three children.

California and has made two visits
home since then. Mrs. Calahan has
been absent twenty-four years and Mrs,
Sparling nearly sixteen years, and
naturally after so long a separation,
such a home coming was fittingly and
joyously celebrated on the old home
place. And such a dinner! Good
enough for a king. We have not the
time nor ability to describe it only to
say there was enough to satisfy all
present, and seemingly enough left for
a good sized threshing crew or harvesting
gang for several meals.
The day was much too short to talk
about the many incidents of the past,
and which so many were lived over
again to the joy and delight of all participating.
Not withsanding the many
greetings of the six sisters and one
brother who had not seen each other for
so many years, and the pleasant reminder
of bygone days, the sad time of
parting and a probability of never all
meeting here again, will come in a few
days, when the ones from other states
will depart for their homes, yet with
feelings of joy and gladness for having
had the privilege of such a grand reunion,
and to know that all are enjoying
good health and bid fair for many
years of happiness to come.
There were present in all 42 at the
home coming and nearly all live very
near except those mentioned, and Mrs.
Alice R Hageman and two children,
of Waterloo-~
Surely the day would not be complete
without a family picture by J. P
King, the flash light photographer, of
Waterloo, who secured an excellent
likeness of the group of seven, besides
several other plates. 0. A. Fox and
family entertained the company
Thursday. September 22, and on Friday
Mrs. Callahan and Mrs. Sparling left
Oelwein for their homes. J. P. K.
