Callender, J. W., Principal of the Elgin Public Schools; born in Union township, Luzerne Co., Pennsylvania, Nov. 1, 1843; removed with his parents to Boone Co., Illinois in 1854; in 1856, came to Chickasaw Co., Iowa; came to Fayette Co. in 1868. He married Sarah E. Gardner, Nov. 18, 1974; she was born in Center Co., Pennsylvania, June 1, 1847.
