At the breaking out of the late war, Mr. B. was one of the three who first to enlist from this township; Mr. B. knows by actual experience the hardships which Union Prisoners were made to endure; captured at Pittsburg Landing (his first battle), he was detained as a prisoner for over seven months, when he was exchanged; rejoining his regiment, he continued to serve as a soldier until the close of hostilities.
