McClain, A., farmer, Section 17 (Fremont township); PO Mill; born in Indiana Co., Pennsylvania, June 19, 1833; came to this State and county in 1856, prospecting; settled in Buchanan Co., where he remained until 1865, when he removed to this county. Married Nancy Piper December 24, 1863; she was born in Westmoreland Co., Pennsylvania, May 13, 1840; have five children --- Maggie E., born January 8, 1865; Ida May, born January 8, 1867; Samuel E., born July 5, 1869; Daniel Arlington, born July 30, 1872; Rose Ella, August 19, 1877. A Republican. Mr. McC. has held the office of School Director. He owns 307 1/2 acres of land in this township.
