Spears, Frank M., farmer (Fremont township); PO Mill; born in Florence, Erie Co., Ohio, November 2, 1841; came to this county with his parents in 1855. In November 1861, he left the parental home and located in Whiteside Co., Illinois, where he remained until April, same year, when he went to Missouri, where he was employed by the government in th Q. M. department until October, 1864, when he returned to Illinois and enlisted in Co. C., 8th Illinois Cavalry; receiving his discharge, he started from this county, in 1867, for Montana Ter., prospecting for gold; remaining however for only a short time in the West, he returned to Whiteside Co., Illinois, where he married Cora Canfield, December 1, 1870; she was born in Aurora, NY, February 22, 1852; Lula, their only child, was born on the 25th of March, 1872. Mr. S. has permanently resided in this county since March, 1875; since when he has been Secretary of the School Board, and by appointment filled the office of Town Clerk for a short time.
