Stowell, Charles G., farmer, Section 31; PO Stapleton; born in Madison Co., New York in 1832 and came to this State in 1854 and settled in Chickasaw Co., where he resided until he enlisted, in 1862, in the 38th I.S.V., Co. C; participated at the siege of Vicksburg and served two years; was honorably discharged and mustered out at Brownsville, Texas, in 1864. Returning home, settled on his present estate in September of the same year. Has been Road Supervisor, School Director and is well and prominently known. Has a farm of eighty-five acres, valued at $20 per acre.
