METZGAR, Albert E., farmer, Sec. 31; P. O. Fayette; born in Geauga Co., Ohio; came to this county in 1860. Enlisted in 1861 in the 1st Wis. V. I.; was in about twenty general engagements; was with Sherman through Georgia, thence to Washington, etc.; discharged in October, 1865; went to California in 1866, and on his return in 1869, saw the first train of cars that crossed the Rocky Mountains. Was married in 1871 to Anna Bailey; she was born in Connecticut, Nov. 18, 1850; have two children living - Hiram W. and Ralph E.; lost one - Leola, died Sept. 4, 1874. He owns 120 acres of land. Mr. and Mrs. M. are members of the United Brethren Church.
