Curtis, Mason A., farmer, Section 32; PO Windsor; born in Chittenden Co., VT, in 1818. Married Mary J. Beach in 1848, and she died in 1842*; had three children, one of whom is living -- Emma; lost two -- Laurens and Ella. His present wife, Julia Howe, was born in Michigan, in 1827; they have four children -- Mary, Ellen, Nettie and Calvin. Came to this county in 1850, and settled in Lost Grove, where he lived six months, when he moved on his present estate; has farm of 125 acres, valued at $4,000; was one of the early settlers; went to McGregor for market and to Elkader to mill; was but one house between his place and West Union at that time. Served as Constable four years, and is well known.
