George Bowser was born December 13,1822 in Bedford County Pennsylvania. He was the first born son to Michael and Catherine Rickle Bowser. When George was three years old his parents moved to Richland County Ohio. Michael Bowser bought eighty acres of land from the United States for the price of $1.25 per acre. George grew up in Troy Township on his fathers farm with his eleven other siblings. Michael Bowser was a very good farmer and very well liked in the community.
In June of 1847 George Bowser married Anna Grimes. She was born November 9,1819 in Berks County Pennsylvania. The daughter of Ludwig and Catherine Lutz Grimes. When Anna was sixteen years old her family moved to Ohio. After George and Anna were married they remained living in Richland County until 1854. With new land being opened up for settlement, George and Anna moved westward to Iowa. George purchased 120 acres of land at the Dubuque Land Office for $1.25 per acre. George and Anna settled in Dover Township in 1855 and built a home that is still standing today. It is now owned by James Grimes.
There were four sons born to them, Martin,William,Jeremiah and David. Martin Bowser was born July 28,1849 in Richland County Ohio. He married Laura Bakeman who was the daughter of George and Lucy Bakeman. Laura was born March 25,1856 in Cass County Michigan. Martin and Laura were married August 31,1871 in Crawford County Wisconsin.
William Bowser was born January 23,1855 in Iowa. He never married but spent his life in pursuit of gold. Never finding any significant amount, William died in Yuba County California October 11,1929.
Jeremiah Bowser was born June 18,1859 in Fayette County and June 25,1882 he married Ida Dorland, the daughter of David and Laura Dorland. Ida was born February 10,1862 in Fayette County Iowa.
David Bowser was born August 18,1866 and married Lillian Gress,the daughter of Adam and Elizabeth J.Learn Gress. Lillian was born February 28,1871 in Fayette County. George Bowser died July 21,1892 in Fayette County and his wife Anna died January 11,1901. Both are buring at the Mt Pleasnt cemetary
