Crawford, James, retired farmer (Fairfield township); PO Brush Creek; born in Ohio July 9, 1805; at the age of 2 years he moved with his parents to Tuecarawas Co., Ohio, and in 1829 he went to Wayne Co., Ohio, where he married Phebe Hartman Sept. 17, 1826; she was born in Columbiana Co., Ohio, Aug. 18, 1806; in 1838 they moved to Madison Co., Ohio, when in 1847 them emigrated to Jefferson Co., Wis. and in 1851 them emigrated and settled in this township; in 1870 he moved to Brush Creek, Mr. C. being one of the oldest settlers in the county; he remembers when there was but fourteen voters in the township. Leonard, Susan, Matilda, Jasper, Anna, Jacob and James are the names of their children. Mr. C. has been Justice of the Peace eleven years. Democrat.
