Rittenhouse, Amos, dealer in dry goods, clothing, groceries, hats and caps, boots and shoes, Brush Creek (Fairfield township); born in Tompkins Co., NY, Nov. 21, 1838; in 1855, he settled in Jo Daviess Co., Ill., and in 1858 he settled in Winnebago Co., Ill., where he married Martha Hall Nov. 27, 1862; she was born in Canada Jan. 1, 1848. Mr. R. enlisted June 1, 1862, and re-enlisted Feb. 8, 1865, and was honorably discharged in October, 1865. They emigrated to and settled in this township in the Fall of 1865, and in the Spring of 1873 he opened his store in Brush Creek, where he is doing a thriving business. Eva, born Jan. 23, 1864 and Louis G., born Aug. 22, 1866 are the names and dates of birth of their children.
