Roy Allen Fox 1924-2010

Roy Allen Fox passed away Sunday, May 9, 2010 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born August 17, 1924 in Oelwein, Iowa to Dorothy (Tripp) Fox and Roy D. Fox.

His family later moved to Estherville, Iowa. Roy was the owner of restaurants in Estherville, Buffalo Center, Worthington, MN, Titonka, and finally in Bancroft, Iowa where he and his family resided for 31 years. Roy served as mayor of Bancroft and was an active businessman in the Bancroft community.

Roy enlisted in the army on March 6, 1943. He served in WWII. He received many service medals and was wounded in action in 1944. He landed on Omaha Beach on D-Day; June 6, 1944. Roy was honorably discharged on July 18, 1949.

Roy was united in marriage to Rita Mae Neppl on November 4, 1953 in Estherville, Iowa at St. Patrick's Catholic Church.

Roy's hobbies were baking, flower gardening and his grandchildren. He was infamous for his homemade pies and enjoyed teaching his grandchildren how to bake. In recent history Dad became an avid fisherman with son-in-law Jay Flaws. As all fishing stories go, they caught one BIG fish !! (In their dreams!)

One of the highlight's of Roy's life was a trip back to Europe in 2003 where he revisited Normandy and was able to retrace his steps of D-Day on Omaha Beach.

Those left to cherish Roy's memories are his wife Rita Mae, his five children Madeleine Huegerich and husband Randy of Willey, Kevin Fox and his wife Patrice of Urbandale, Kathy Ubben and her husband Mike of Dakota City, Colleen Flaws and her husband Jay of Carlisle, and Patrick Fox and his wife Stacey of Urbandale, 21 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, 2 brothers Jim Fox (Mickey) & Rolland Fox, and sister Bette Lunde.

Roy was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Mardelle & Karol and brothers Robert, Karl, & Richard, also grandson Adam Roy Fox. (Henry-Olson Funeral Chapel website)
