Isaac T. Carter was born in Lucas county, Iowa, January 26, 1856. He was one of a family of twelve children born to Joel and Elizabeth Carter. His brother, John, is the only living member of the family. Mr. Carter received his education in the district school of that neighborhood. On September 2, 1869, he was married to Sarah Graham. Nine children were born to this marriage, six of whom, together with their mother, survive their father and husband. They are: Orien and Graham Carter, of Seattle, Wash., Mrs. Dorothy Westberg and Mrs. Charles C. Cornell, of Lincoln, Neb., Mrs. Carl Newman, of Clinton, Iowa, and Paul Carter, who made his home with his parents in Estherville. For a period of three years after their marriage they resided in Lucas county. In 1872 they moved to Harrington, Kans., where they lived until 1875. After that they moved several times, living in Iowa and Indiana. In 1901 they settled in Emmetsburg, which continued to be their home until 1917 when they came to Estherville where they have since resided. Mr. Carter has not been in rugged health for several years. However he kept about and was as active as his strength would permit. About a week ago he took to his bed and it was evident that he could not remain long with his family. Members of the family were notified and several were present at the time of his death on Thursday afternoon, October 8 1925, at the age of 70 years. Mr. Carter was a member of the Methodist church at Emmetsburg. The funeral services were held in the Methodist church at Estherville on Saturday morning, October 10th. Interment took place in Oak Hill Cemetery. (Estherville Democrat, Estherville, IA, October 14, 1925)
