C. S. Blakey Passes Away Minneapolis
Died in Minneapolis March 23 After Long Illness
Interment Made Here
Was a Pioneer in Dickinson and Emmet Counties – In Business in This City
While it was generally known that Mr. Chas. S. Blakey was ill and had been for a long time, it was not believed that his condition was serious and the news of his death was a great shock to this community where he was known for many years.

He moved here from Dickinson county several years ago and settled on a farm north and west of the Norwegian cemetery, where he resided with his family for about five years, when he moved to Estherville where he lived until the death of his wife in 1916, after which he went to Chicago to live with his children.

While here he was proprietor of a meat market and also devoted much of his time to buying and selling live stock.

Mr. Blakey was an exemplary man in every way. He was a splendid and honorable man in all of his business relations with his fellow man. The community was the better for his presence.

Following is the obituary prepared by Rev. LaGrone, pastor of the Methodist church, of which deceased had been affiliated for many years.

Charles Statt [Stott] Blakey was born in Racine County, Wisconsin, March 21, 1857, and died in Minneapolis, Minnesota, on March 23, 1922, aged 65 years and two days.

Mr. Blakey grew to manhood in his native state and was united in marriage to Miss Ella Apple on November 25(?) 1878. To this union were born five children, Leonard who died October 3, 1919; Austin who died May 27, 1893; Mangus, who died in August, 1898 and Dorothy, now Mrs. J. H. Romans of West Point Minnesota and Roy of Minneapolis. Mrs. Blakey died August 17, 1916. Mr. Blakey is therefore survived by only his two children, a brother and other distant relatives, but he is also mourned by a great number of very dear friends.

He lived in Dickinson and Emmet Counties for many years, the greater part of the time in Estherville. Here he was prominent in business circles and here he was converted and united with the Methodist Episcopal church of Estherville, in which organization he was an active worker until about three years ago when he went to live with his children. He served as a trustee during his active service in the church and was an honorary member of that board when death removed him from the activities of this life.

The body was brought back to Estherville on Saturday afternoon accompanied by his son and daughter. Funeral services were held on Sunday afternoon at the Methodist Episcopal church with Rev. J. W. LaGrone in charge. Music was furnished by the church quartette and Rev. Mr. LaGrone spoke on “God Our Dwelling Place.” A large number of old friends and neighbors attended the funeral services and beautiful flowers were brought in to show the high regard in which he was held by his former friends and associates. The body was laid in its last resting place beside his wife and children who had preceded him. (Vindicator and Republican, Estherville, IA, March 29, 1922)

News reached this place of the death of Charles Blakey, which occurred Thursday at Minneapolis, where he had been ill in the hospital for about three weeks. Mr. Blakey had been in failing health for several years but the news of his death came as a shock as it was not known that he was seriously ill. He was a former well known resident of this county and had many friends here who will be sorry to learn of his death.
