Minnie Hiles, 1880-1981

Estherville--Services for Mrs. Minnie Hiles, 100, formerly of the Estherville and Gruver areas, will be 2 p.m. Friday at the Estherville Christian Church with the Rev. James Harmon and the Rev. Fred Sawyer officiating. Interment will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery. (d. Jan. 12, 1981)

Mrs. Hiles died Monday at Valley Vue Nursing Home, Armstrong.

Friends may call at the Fuhrman Funeral Home, Estherville, after 3 p.m. Thursday until noon Friday and at the church one hour prior to the services.

The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Boling (Celia Hay), she was born Dec. 5, 1880, near Mackinaw, ILL. She graduated from Pekin, ILL., high school and Illinois State Normal University, Normal, ILL,. and finished her education at the Litta Conservatory, Bloomington, ILL. She taught school at El Paso and Normal, ILL.

She was married to Leroy P. Hiles in 1913 (Oct 23) at Fairbanks, Iowa, where the couple farmed until moving to a farm east of Estherville in 1920. Following Mr. Hiles death in 1932, Mrs. Hiles and her children moved to a farm west of Milford, returning to Estherville in 1940. She was a member of the Christian church.

Mrs. Hiles is survived by two sons, John Hiles, Gary, S. D., and Jacob Hiles, Bellflower, Calif.; two daughters, Mrs. B. K. (Celia) Ray, Cypress, Calif., and Mrs. Rex (Vivian) Riggs, Mesa, Ariz,; 13 grandchildren; and 21 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and three brothers.
