Rites To Be Tuesday for Mrs. Hiles

Funeral services for Mrs. William Hiles, 66, resident of Emmet County for the past 39 years, will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at First Methodist Church with the Rev. William R. Noland officiating. Public services will be at 10:30 a.m. at the Reese Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in East Side Cemetery. (d. May 17, 1963)

Mrs. Hiles died yesterday morning in Holy Family Hospital, about an hour after having been brought there by ambulance. Her death was attributed to a heart condition. Mrs. Hiles had been in poor health for a number of years, but her condition had been growing worse since December.

The former Maude Elizabeth Thomas was born Sept. 27, 1895, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Thomas, at Hazelton. She received her education in the Hazelton schools. She was married to William V. Hiles on Dec. 26, 1923 in Hazelton. They moved to a farm east of Estherville in January 1924, and they lived there until retirement in 1960 at which time they moved to Estherville.

Mrs. Hiles was the first president of the VFW Auxiliary in Estherville which was formed 20 years ago and was a charter member of the Auxiliary. She was also a past president of the American Legion Auxiliary and Degree of Honor. She was a member of the Brown Creek Club and Rebekah Lodge, of the Methodist Church and active in church circles.

Surviving are her husband, William V. Hiles, Estherville, one son, William G. Hiles, rural Estherville; one daughter, Mrs. Henry (Marion) Petersen, Tampa Fla.; one grandson, Kenneth Hiles, and one brother, Lucien Thomas of Estherville.

Friends may call at the Reese Funeral Home from 9 a.m. Monday until noon on Tuesday, at which time the body will be taken to the church where it will lie in state until time of the service.

Pallbearers will be Lars Anderson, Francis Anderson, Leonard Petersen, Raymond Juhl, Gus Ramsey and Herman Blom.
