Mrs. Allen Hiles Dies

Mrs. J. Allen Hiles, 73, long time resident of the Gruver community, died at 2:42 p.m. yesterday at Holy Family Hospital after an illness of several months. She has been hospitalized at different times during that period at both Holy Family and Rochester, Minn. (d. Feb 21, 1956).

Florence Myrtle Isley, the daughter of Emmanual and Vandalana Isley, was born Sept. 29, 1882, at Hunt City, Illinois.

She was graduated from Teachers' College at Newton, Illinois, and taught school for two years before her marriage. She married James Allen Hiles, Aug. 31, 1902.

Mr. and Mrs. Hiles and family came to Iowa in 1928, settling on a farm near Gruver. In 1942 they retired and moved to Gruver where they have since resided.

Mrs. Hiles was a member of the Christian Church of Hunt City, ILL., later transferring her membership to the Gruver Presbyterian Church. She was active in all church affairs and took part in all community affairs.

Surviving are her husband; one son, Buford E. Hiles of Pittsburgh, Pa.; three daughters, Mrs. Rex (Clarice) Inman, Mrs. Vernon (Bernice) Brown, both of Estherville and Mrs. Maurice (Dorothy) Jensen of Long Beach, Calif.; three sisters, Mrs. Emma Cummins, Mrs. Marvin Harrison and Mrs. Irvin Martin, all of Newton, ILL.; 10 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were a son, Rawleigh, who died in infancy; two brothers, Attorneys Albert E. Isley and William E. Isley; two sisters, Mrs. Norman Harrison and Mrs. George Stretcher, all of Newton, ILL.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 pm. Friday at the family home and at 2 pm. at Gruver Presbyterian Church with the Rev. William Niles officiating.

Friends may call at Sternborg Funeral home until 10 am. Friday.
