ESTHERVILLE, Iowa -- Services for Asgar Hansen, 87, of Estherville will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Estherville Lutheran Church with Pastor Ray Miller officiating. Burial will be in East Side Cemetery, Estherville.

Mr. Hansen died Monday, April 28, 2003, at Rosewood Manor, Estherville. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Thursday at Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home, Estherville.

Asgar Hansen, the son of Otto Peter and Ingrid "Marie" (Edvardsen) Hansen was born on December 11, 1915, in Taars, Denmark and departed this life on Monday, April 28, 2003, at Rosewood Manor in Estherville at the age of 87 years old.

He was baptized at the Taars Lutheran Church. He came to America in 1923 with his parents and three brothers, Erling, Einar and Hans, and one sister, Gudrun. He was confirmed in the Ringsted Lutheran Church and received his education in the Armstrong country schools.

His family farmed in the Ringsted, Armstrong and Dolliver areas. On December 21, 1937, he was united in marriage to Erma Ella Feddersen in the Danish Lutheran Church in Ringsted. After their marriage, the couple farmed in the Cylinder and Dolliver, Iowa areas until 1950, when they moved to their Estherville farm. In 1988 they moved into Estherville. Erma died May 9, 1994. Asgar enjoyed farming, raising cattle, traveling back to Denmark to visit family and being with his family.

Asgar was a member of the Dolliver Lutheran Church and then the Estherville Lutheran Church.

He is survived by five sons, Allyn Hansen and his wife, Doreene of Dolliver; Darryl Hansen of Estherville; Marlyn Hansen and his wife, Rhonda of Estherville; Ron Hansen and his wife, Cassandra of Hillsborough, Wisconsin, Gary Hansen and his wife, Rhonda of Estherville; twenty-three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one brother, Hans Hansen and his wife, Judy of Estherville; and many nieces and nephews.

Asgar has been preceded in death by his wife; granddaughter, Julie (Hansen) Cogdill; parents; two brothers; and one sister.
