Funeral services for Carl Groth were held first from the Emmet County Home, of which Mr. Groth was the manager, Thursday afternoon, May 10, [1945], and then from the Wallingford Lutheran church, with the Rev. L. G. Hinderaker, officiating. Glenn Groth, a son, who is a student at Luther Theological Seminary at St. Paul, sang several numbers both at the church and at the home. Pastor C. J. Naglestad, a brother-in-in-law, spoke in behalf of the family and made additional remarks.

Mr. Groth was apparently in good health but was suddenly stricken on Monday night [May 7, 1945] and died suddenly.

Carl Ludvig Groth was born Feb. 1, 1884, to Julia and Halsten Groth near Estherville. He was baptized by the Rev. M. G. Hanson at Estherville, and at the age of 15 he was confirmed by the Rev. O. J. Wagnild at the Riverside Lutheran church. This later became the Wallingford Lutheran church, of which he was a member for many years and at the time of his death.

Mr. Groth received his education at the Estherville high school and spent two years at the Red wing Seminary at Red Wing, Minn. On Aug. 2, 1916, he was united in marriage to Amy Halverson at Grafton, N. D. by the Rev. H. J. Glenn. They established their home at Loma, N. D., where he operated a general store for several years. In 1931 he returned to Estherville and took charge of the Emmet County Home where he has continued to live until his death with the exception of two years.

He leaves a wife, four children, Paul, Glenn, Betty and Jean; three sisters, Mrs. Carl. O. Peterson of Estherville; Mrs. C. J. Naglestad of Ellsworth, Ia.; and Miss Rose Groth of Minneapolis.

Interment was made in Riverside cemetery.
