Longtime Resident of County Dies

Ole G. Gilbertson, 78, Emmet county native and long time county resident, died 3:13 p.m. Friday [Dec. 16, 1949] of old age and lingering illness. He had been ailing for about five years.

The deceased was born Dec. 17, 1870 near Swan Lake and received his education in Emmet county rural schools and in Algona business college. He was married Sept. 26, 1898 to Josie [Josephine] Peterson in the Estherville Lutheran church. The couple celebrated its golden wedding anniversary in September, 1948.

The Gilbertson family moved in 1903 to Montana where Ole was employed with the Northern Pacific railroad, returning in 1910 to Emmet county where he farmed near Maple Hill. In 1933 the family retired from farming, moving to Armstrong, but three years ago they moved to a farm near Estherville.

Gilbertson was active in community service, serving for many years on the board of directors for Maple Hill consolidated school until poor health forced retirement. Early in life he was confirmed and baptized in Estherville Lutheran church and has been a life long member.

Survivors include his wife, a son Harold at home, a daughter, Mrs. Clyde Sanborn of Estherville; a brother-in-law Burt Peterson of Armstrong, nieces and nephews, Jean Hanson of Alberta, Canada, Lena Helvick of Darby, Mont., Hans Hanson and Josie Bryan and their children of Estherville. A son, Orvie, two brothers, Gus and Gilbert, and two sisters, Mary Mason and Serena Hanson, preceded him in death.

Services will be held 1:30 p.m. Sunday in Sandin funeral home and 2 p.m. in Estherville Lutheran church, the Rev. L. G. Hinderaker officiating. Burial will be in Swan Lake cemetery. Pall bearers will be Ray Bardo, Johnnie Johnson, H. L. Dominy, William Reid, Adolph Olson and Gus Knudson.
