Mrs. O. G. Gilbertson Dies at 82

Mrs. O. G (Josie) Gilbertson, 82, resident of Emmet County for approximately 70 years, died Sunday [Oct. 7, 1962] at 1:30 a.m. at her home. Mrs. Gilbertson had suffered a series of strokes and had been in ill health for the past three and one-half years.

The former Josie Peterson was born Aug. 2, 1880 at Morris, Kendall county, Ill., the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ben Peterson. When just a young girl she moved with her parents to Emit County and grew to womanhood here.

She was married Sept. 26, 1898 to Ole GO. Gilbertson at the Estherville Lutheran Church (the old church destroyed by fire in 1941) by the Rev. HE. Neigh. Mr. and Mrs. Gilbertson farmed in the Swan Lake area. They observed their golden wedding anniversary in September, 1948. Mr. Gilbertson died Dec. 16, 1949.

While a young girl, Mrs. Gilbertson was baptized and confirmed at the same church in which she was later married. She continued to be active in women's work of the church as long as her health permitted.

She also was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary.

Mrs. Gilbertson is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Clyde (Grace) Sanborn, and one son, Harold, both of Estherville. Her husband and one son preceded her in death.
She also was the last surviving member of her parents' family, having been preceded in death by them, a sister and two brothers.

Funeral services for Mrs. Gilbertson are to be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Estherville Lutheran Church. the Rev. I. A. Mature officiating. Burial is to be in Swan Lake cemetery.

Active pallbearers are to be Bernard Rezac, David A. Fitzgibbons, Rasmus L. Hansen, Stanley E. Egertson, Rudolph Hardt and Vere Harvey.

Honorary pallbearers will include William Hansen, W. I. Reid, A. K. Olson, John Quastad, Clarence Sorum, John O. Johnson, Stewart Ullensvang and Carl Barlow.
