Charles Roger Johnson, the son of Thomas and Elizabeth (Williamson) Johnson, was born August 4, 1929, on a farm near Knoke, Iowa. He died Friday, May 13, 2022, at Good Samaritan Society in Estherville, Iowa, at the age of 92.
Roger moved to Estherville with his family as a boy. He graduated from Estherville High School. After graduating, he attended brick laying school.
On June 2, 1949, Roger was united in marriage to Irma Jean Hurst at First Christian Church in Estherville. The couple made their home in Estherville where Roger was employed in automotive parts stores, including Seig Company and Motor Supply both in Estherville. In later years, Roger was employed part time at Avera Holy Family Hospital as a patient attendant at the main entrance. In his leisure time Roger enjoyed fishing and traveling. Irma died in 2017.
Roger was a dedicated member of First Christian Church in Estherville where he served in various capacities as usher, deacon and anywhere he was needed.
Left to cherish Roger's memory are three daughters, Linda Wee of Parkersburg, Iowa; Elizabeth Montanez and her husband, Miguel of Hilton Head Island, South Carolina; Laurie Shatley of Estherville; five grandchildren, Mandy Kiesel and her husband, Rick; Jessica Uhlenhopp and her husband, Justin; Miguel Montanez Jr. and his wife, Melanie; Koni Wee; Marissa Montanez and her husband, Matt; six great grandchildren, Zoey, Zion, Zada and Zander Uhlenhopp; Mia Montanez and Robin Kiesel.
Roger has been preceded in death by his wife, Irma; son, Michael; son-in-law, James Wee; his parents; three brothers and other relatives and friends.
The funeral service was held Thursday, May 19, 2022 at the First Christian Church in Estherville with Pastor Doug Burton officiating. Burial was at Oak Hill Cemetery in Estherville.
