Phyllis Allene (Bode) Harms 1937-2021

Phyllis Allene Harms, daughter of Harold and Bernice (Peterson) Bode, was born on June 11, 1937 in Chamberlain, South Dakota. She passed away at Avera Holy Family Hospital in Estherville, Iowa on August 31, 2021 at the age of 84.

Phyllis attended and graduated from Chamberlain High School and then attended Nurses’ Training School in Sioux City, Iowa for three years. She was united in marriage to Dwayne Harms in 1958 in Chamberlain. The couple had three daughters Pamela, Susan, and Carolyn. Phyllis enjoyed a long career as a registered nurse, serving nursing home patients in Chamberlain before moving to Iowa; where she was employed at the North Shore Nursing Home Spencer. She later moved to Estherville, where she retired from Holy Family Hospital in 2002.

Phyllis was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Estherville, where she was an active member of the Ladies Guild. She supported her community as a member of WaTanYe. Reading, sewing, and flower gardening filled Phyllis’ time when she wasn’t working or spending time with her family.

She is survived by her daughters: Pamela (Robbie) Peterson of Rochester, New York, Susan (John) Pytleski of Estherville, and Carolyn (Derek) Wibe of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; six grandchildren: Ian Barnard, Erin Barnard, Allison Barnard, Tom (Sheila) McDermott, Lauren Wibe, and Dean Wibe; two twin great-granddaughters, Reina and Aya; and her brother Wes (Marilyn) Bode of Perry, Iowa.

Phyllis is preceded in death by her parents.

Visitation was held Saturday, September 4, 2021 at the Henry-Olson Funeral Chapel in Estherville.
