Grant Edward Wilson 1940-2021

Grant Edward Wilson, was born in Estherville, Iowa on June 19, 1940 to Ralph and Agnes (Metz) Wilson. He passed away at Pioneer Memorial Hospital and Health Center in Viborg, South Dakota on July 1, 2021, at the age of 81, surrounded by his family.

Grant graduated from Graettinger, Iowa High School, he served in the United States Army entering on February 15, 1960. He was honorably discharged on February 14, 1963. He was united in marriage to Claudia M. Zahorodny on October 12, 1974 at Canton United Methodist Church. They made their home in the Canton, South Dakota area and was an owner operator, driving semis all over the United States. In 1995, he returned to Ringsted, Iowa and continued to drive truck. Grant retired from driving truck in May of 2016. He then moved to Graettinger, where he enjoyed spending his days at the golf course and visiting people around town.

Grant was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Ringsted. He enjoyed classic cars and was a founding member of the Black Knights Car Club. He was also a member of the Ringsted American Legion and the VFW. In his younger years, he enjoyed riding motorcycles, camping with family all over the United States, and later going south in the winters.

Grant is survived by his children Jim (Jaimie) Wilson of Douglas, Wyoming; Kathy (Jerry) Lottman of Canton; Denise (Chris) Oliver and Rob Wilson both of Salem, Wisconsin: numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers Ron (Connie) Wilson of Armstrong, Iowa and Darwin (Sue) Wilson of Ringsted and many nieces and nephews.

Grant is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Claudia, son Wayne, and infant siblings Kathleen, Larry, and Nancy.

A funeral service was held Tuesday, July 6, 2021 at the First Presbyterian Church in Ringsted.
