Arlene Sylvia Gage, daughter of Samuel and Amanda (Tveitnes) Bondhus, was born on May 5, 1936 at home in rural Dolliver, Iowa. She passed away surrounded by her family at her home in rural Dolliver, Iowa on January 25, 2021 at the age of 84 years.

Arlene attended and graduated from Dolliver High School. She then attended Waldorf College and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree. On September 28, 1957, she was united in marriage to Donald D. Gage at the Palestine Lutheran Church in rural Dolliver. The couple made their home near Swan Lake. They later moved to a farm in rural Dolliver, where they remained for life.

Arlene worked at the FSA office, as well as at the Dolliver and Lincoln Central Schools as a secretary. As a child she gained some close friends; whom she still, 75 plus years later, enjoyed getting together with. Spending time with family was the most important thing to Arlene and Don. Nights of playing cards, attending her children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events, or taking a drive around the country with Don, were all things that brought her great enjoyment.

Arlene was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Estherville, where she was active in the circle. Arlene was a very spiritual person; when attending Sunday church services in person wasn’t an option, she would watch and listen to local and national services. Listening to Billy Graham, Hour of Power, and reading the Daily Bread Devotional brought peace to her life.

Arlene is survived by her children Mike (Laurie) Gage of Dolliver and Julie (Rich) Collison of Algona, Iowa; grandchildren Karen Gage of Dolliver; Derek (Christine) Gage of Adel, Iowa; Brady (Cassie) Collison of Algona; and Clay Collison of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; and great-grandchildren Autry, Matthew, Ruthanne, Avery, and Lydia. She is also survived by her sisters Carol (Elmer) Clear, Doris (Chuck) Haley, and Ruth Bondhus, and sisters and brother in law Gertrude Shipley, Connie Gage, Lorraine Gage, and Bob Nelson, and many nieces and nephews.

Arlene is preceded in death by her parents, husband, and sisters Gertrude (Vernon) Natterstad and Marlys Nelson.

The funeral service was held Friday, January 29, 2021 at the First Presbyterian Church in Estherville with interment at the Armstrong Grove Cemetery, Armstrong, Iowa.
