Robert Gailen Baker was born on Feb. 12, 1937, to Blanche (Wilson) and Snowden Eugene Baker in Winterset, Iowa. Robert passed away on Jan. 30, 2020, at his home in Darby, Montana. Robert was the youngest of five Baker children who blessed Blanche and Snowden’s life, and was the last living member of the family.

At a young age, Robert moved to the Estherville, Iowa area with his family where he lived on and helped work the family farm. In 1954, Robert began employment as an auto mechanic. In August 1956, he was united in marriage to Barbara Mae Sternborg. In 1968, Robert started his own successful auto body repair business known as Baker Body Shop.

In 1982, Robert moved to Darby, Montana. It was there, with his youngest son Garrett, near the mountains that he loved, that he remained until his passing, living the life he loved.

Robert is survived by four children: Robert Baker, Albuquerque, New Mexico, Laura (Steven) Westergard, rural Graettinger, Iowa; Ryan (Michele) Baker, Sherburn, Minnesota; and Garrett Baker, Darby, Montana. He is also survived by five grandchildren-Jacob, Samuel and Annalivia Baker, Lawton and Stanton Westergard, as well as four great grandchildren-Otto and Sigurd Baker, and Laryn and Kai Westergard.
