Nonda Arlene (Cother) Beaver 1929-2020

Nonda Arlene Beaver ,was born March 29, 1929 in Milford, Iowa, the daughter of Ural and Vivian (Davis) Cother. She passed away at West Bend Health and Rehabilitation in West Bend, Iowa on June 1, 2020, at the age of 91 years.

She received her education in Arnolds Park, graduating from Arnolds Park High School in 1946. While in high school she worked at Palm Gardens in Arnolds Park as a waitress.

On September 14, 1946 she was united in marriage to Donald Ray Beaver in Spencer, Iowa. Most of their married life was spent in the Estherville area, although they lived for a time in California, where Nonda painted ash trays. After returning to Iowa in 1954, she worked as a waitress and at Pepsi in Estherville, completing her working career at Univac in Jackson, Minnesota. Nonda and Don were able to enjoy 67 years together before Don passed away on March 2, 2014.

Nonda was a member of the First Christian Church where she was active as a circle member. She was also a member of the VFW Auxiliary.

She enjoyed old time country music, jigsaw puzzles, romance novels, craft work, watching birds and squirrels eat from her feeders, afternoon drives with Don, attending family members’ sporting events, and watching TV, especially RFD and the Hallmark channel. Everyone in the family and many friends can attest to the fact that she made the best potato salad. Nonda often commented that she didn’t know why everyone was so nice to her, but it was her unconditional love for everyone and her humility that made it so easy for others to love her.

Left to cherish Nonda’s memory are her children, Ron (Cathy) Beaver of Wallingford and Lori (Mark) King of Estherville along with her daughter-in-law, Norma Beaver of Estherville. Nonda is also survived by grandchildren, Matt (Jessica) Beaver, Aaron (Sheri) Beaver, Ann (Shawn) Ingvall, Jared Beaver, Nicole (Matt) Lauritsen and Sara (Toby) Rezac. Grandma Nonnie was also blessed with 13 great grandchildren and one great-great grandson.

Nonda was preceded in death by her husband; parents; son, Randy; sisters, Leone Cother and Thora (Forrest) Robinson and her brother, Donald (Doris) Cother.

The funeral service was held Friday, June 5, 2020 at the First Christian Church in Estherville with burial at East Side Cemetery in Estherville.
