Gertrude E. Jensen was born on January 17, 1928 in Dolliver, Iowa to Charles and Emma (Steele) McKean. She passed away on June 4, 2020 at Avera Holy Family Hospital in Estherville, Iowa at the age of 92 years.

Gertrude attended and graduated from Seneca High School. She then graduated from the University of Northern Iowa with a teaching degree. Gertrude taught school for three years. She was united in marriage to Calvin J. Jensen on June 11, 1948 in Estherville. The couple made their home in the Armstrong area. Gertrude worked at the Armstrong Library for 17 years, 10 of which she was the director.

Gertrude was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Armstrong, where she was moderator and treasurer of the ladies’ group and was active in the quilting group. She enjoyed sewing and quilting; making many baby quilts for an orphanage in Jamaica.

Gertrude is survived by her children Gary (Jo) Jensen of Armstrong, Beth (Dave) Carrico of Estherville, and Kim (Angie) Jensen of Humbolt; eight grandchildren: Kristy (Brian) Condon, Andrew (Theresa) Jensen, Alex (Julie) Jensen, Ryan (Ashley) Carrico, Brad (Holly) Carrico, Aimee Allen, Amber (Jeremy) Asklund and Cameron (Emily) Jensen; 19 great-grandchildren: Payton, Nicole, and Genevieve Condon, Aurora and Abigail Jensen, Evelyn, Wells, and Walker Jensen, Noah, Liam and Mea Carrico, Oliver Carrico, Jayse, Gaige, and Jax Allen, Riley Miller, Briella, Cain, and Calvin Jensen.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers, Keith, Merton, and Russell; sisters Joyce Peton, Margola McKean, Dorothy Helgason, and Mary Jean Helgason.

A graveside service was held Monday, June 8, 2020 at the Armstrong Grove Cemetery.
