Russell Allen Wheeler, the son of Ernest and Virginia (Wallin) Wheeler, was born September 15, 1957, in Estherville, Iowa. He died Thursday, June 18, 2020, at Pearl Valley Care Center in Estherville at the age of 62.

He began his education in the Estherville School District and later moved with his family to the Minneapolis-St. Paul, Minnesota area where he graduated from high school. After graduation he attended the University of Minnesota, where he graduated from college.

Russell returned to the area making his home in Armstrong, Iowa. He married Susan (Omundson) VonBank and the couple made their home in Gruver, Iowa. He was employed in various jobs, Stokley Canning in Fairmont, Minnesota, Estherville Foods and he also worked in construction as a carpenter. In his leisure time he loved fishing, motorcycles, attending the annual air show in Minneapolis and played the guitar in the Northwest Iowa Jazz Band.

He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Estherville.

Russell is survived by his son, Steven VonBank of Estherville; Susan VonBank Wheeler of Estherville; Steve (Ann) Wallin of Marietta, Georgia,and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Mike.

Interment was at Sunset Cemetery, Minneapolis, Minnesota.
