Gladys June (Kerns) Larsen , was born on June 4, 1934, in Leola, SD, to Sophie Remmers Sonterre. She departed her life on earth at Valley Vue Care Center on August 11, 2020, at the age of 86 years.

While living with her Grandma Remmers, she attended school to the 8th grade in Anoka, MN. Then she was asked to take care of her cousins. Later, she went to Ringsted to help her aunt. While there, she met Howard Larsen. They were married on December 10, 1950 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Ringsted. While Howard was in the service, during the Korean War, Gladys did odd jobs, working in a restaurant and a grocery store. Later, she went back to Minnesota to be a caretaker.

After Howard returned home, she became a housewife and raised 6 children. After Howard’s death in 1989, she decided to get her GED and her driver’s license.

She enjoyed traveling, working in restaurants, owning her own at one point, until her retirement, so she could travel some more.

Gladys enjoyed cooking and entertaining. She also enjoyed sewing, reading, taking care of plants, putting jigsaw puzzles together, and doing word search puzzles. The top things she enjoyed were, going shopping and socializing with people, to reach her goal of making them smile and laugh. Gladys had a big heart and thought of others before herself.

Gladys is survived by her 6 children Gene, Gloria, Wayne, Delores, Dennis, and Alan; 8 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, extended relatives, and many close friends; two stepbrothers, Bill and Ralph Sonterre.

Gladys is preceded in death by her mother, her husband Howard on July 20, 1989, her half-brothers, Chuck Bauer, Wally Bauer, Harold Bauer, Gene Bauer, and Bruce Sonterre.

A graveside service was held Saturday, August 15, 2020 at St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, Ringsted, Iowa.
