Funeral services for Chester W. Herke were held on Wednesday, November 21, 2007, at United Methodist Church in Graettinger, Iowa. Pastor Mike Shaffer officiated the services and Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.Chester Wesley Herke the son of Herman and Ruby (Richardson) Herke was born on May 7, 1931 in Estherville, Iowa and departed this life on Monday, November 19, 2007 at Spencer Municipal Hospital in Spencer Iowa at the age of 76.
He received his education in the Estherville schools graduating from Estherville High School. He served in the US Marines during the Korean Conflict.
On May 21, 1952, Chester was united in marriage to Margaret Haisman in Spirit Lake, Iowa. Following their marriage the couple made their home in San Diego, California. In 1954, they returned to the area where they were engaged in farming in the Wallingford area. For hobbies, he enjoyed auctions, fishing and raising animals. Margaret passed away January 21, 2006.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Graettinger and the Wallingford American Legion.
Left to cherish Chester’s memory are two sons, Mike Herke of rural Estherville; David Herke and his wife, Sherrill of Estherville, one daughter, Deb Shields and her husband, Al of Estherville; grandchildren, Audrey, David, Jessica, Steven, Randy Elissa, Terra; great-grandchildren, Sidney, Landon, Alana and Alyssa and his mother-in-law, Veronica Haisman of Estherville.
He was preceded in death by his wife and parents.
Military Graveside Rites by Wallingford American Legion.
