John J. Westrem
1924-1979
Weston, Mo. – John J. [Junior] Westrem, 54, Weston, Mo., and formerly of Estherville, died May 29 at Veterans Hospital, Kansas City, Mo.

Military services for Mr. Westrem were held June 1 at the Weston United Methodist Church, Weston, with interment in Fort Leavenworth National Cemetery, Leavenworth, Kan.

Funeral arrangements were made by Vaughn Funeral Home, Weston.

He son of Mr. and Mrs. John L. Westrem, he was born October 18, 1924 at Estherville. He graduated from Estherville High School and served in the Air Force. Upon discharge from the Air Force he attended the American Technical Institute, Des Moines. He worked for an airline in Denver, Colo., then returned to Des Moines as an instructor at the American Technical Institute. He was married to Joan Rockwell on April 18, 1948, at Des Moines. The couple moved to Missouri where Mr. Westrem worked as a mechanic for Transworld Airlines for 28 years.

He was a member of the Methodist Mens Club and Local 1650 of the Machinists Union. He was also a Boy Scout leader.

Mr. Westrem is survived by his wife, Joan; two sons, Michael Westrem, Liberty, Mo., and Jeffrey Westrem, Lake Waukomis, Mo.; two daughters, Ranee Byrne, New Port News, Va., and Pamela Morrison, Tracy, Mo.; his mother, Lottie; one brother, Merril Westrem, Ft. Meyers, Fla.; one sister, Florence Gathercole, Estherville; and seven grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, May 31, 1979)
