A.M. Mitchell, 77, Formerly of Armstrong, Dies
Funeral services were held yesterday afternoon in the Armstrong cemetery for Andrew M. Mitchell, 77, Waterloo, former Armstrong resident and father of Mrs. George Beck of Armstrong. The Rev. R.R. Irwin was in charge.Mr. Mitchell died Wednesday [August 10, 1938] morning in Waterloo immediately following a heart attack he suffered as he was stepping into his car to drive to Armstrong. He and Mrs. Mitchell were planning to visit their daughter in Armstrong, and Mitchell had stepped on the running board when he collapsed. Neighbors carried him into his home, but a physician said death had been instantaneous.
Surviving him besides Mrs. Mitchell and his daughter, Mrs. Beck, and another daughter, Mrs. Andrew Roth, Dubuque; and four grandchildren. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, August 13, 1938)
Funeral Services at Armstrong For Andrew Mitchell
Armstrong, Iowa: Funeral services were held Friday at 3:30 at the grave for Andrew M. Mitchell of Waterloo. Mr. Mitchell was stricken with a heart attack just as he was stepping into his car to come to Armstrong to visit their daughter, Mrs. George Beck. He died instantly.Andrew McFarland Mitchell was born in the province of Quebec, Canada in 1861 [June 1]. He was married in 1888 to Miss Jennie Carrol. They farmed for many years near Armstrong before moving to Waterloo in 1917. They would have celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in December.
He was a member of the first Presbyterian church of Waterloo and the A.F. & A.M. lodge of Armstrong and the Modern Woodmen of America.
He leaves to mourn his death his wife, two daughters Mrs. Andrew Rath of Dubuque and Mrs. George Beck of Armstrong, also four grandchildren and a large number of friends. (Vindicator and Republican, Estherville, IA, August 18, 1938)
