She died Thursday, Sept. 16, 2010, at the Lutz Wing, Fairmont Medical Center, Fairmont, Minn.

Emma was born April 22, 1923, in Dolliver to Verna (Cox) and Carl Feddersen. She attended schools in Arnolds Park and Dolliver, graduating from Dolliver High School in 1941. After graduation, Emma worked in the Estherville City Hall where they rationed tires during the war and was employed at Fairmont Canning Factory before heading to Minneapolis with her lifelong friend, Elnora Weber. She worked at Fannie Farmer Candy until a position opened at the Twin City Ordnance Plant where she was happy and proud to be able to help out the war efforts. She also worked for Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing making sandpaper belts.

After returning to this area, she met her future husband, Joe McConnell, at a dance, which was one of Emma's favorite things to do. They were married at the Little Brown Church, Nashua, April 28, 1949. They lived in the Swea City area where they farmed and raised turkeys. In the spring of 1952, Joe and Emma moved to a farm north of Armstrong where they farmed and raised livestock until their retirement. Emma and Joe enjoyed music, square dancing, ballroom dancing and belonged to a card club. Emma also was part of a neighborhood club for many years making friendships she treasured along the way. She was a Cub Scout den mother and stayed busy supporting Joe in his farming operation and raising five children. It was a joy to please her children, their spouses, her grandchildren and relatives with her delectable baking.

Joe and Emma were members of Nazareth Lutheran Church, Armstrong. The couple retired in 1988 and bought a home in Armstrong in 1991. Joe died April 18, 2000. Emma moved into Goldfinch Estates Assisted Living, Fairmont, in May, 2003 and entered the Roxanne House in 2006. She moved into the Lutz Wing of the Fairmont Medical Center in January 2010.
