Local Woman Passes Away
Illness Is Fatal to Mrs. Macdonald
Mrs. F.A. Macdonald died at 2:15 p.m. yesterday at her home after an illness of two months. She would have been 65 years old Jan. 21.Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. tomorrow in the Methodist church following short private services at the home. The Rev. F.W. Ortmeyer will be in charge of the services. Burial will be in Armstrong.
Mrs. Macdonald was born Jan. 21, 1870 in Traer where she lived until she came to Estherville in 1927.
She has been active in W.C.T.U. work in Estherville.
She is survived by her husband, former county engineer F.A. Macdonald, two children, Mrs. Nels Osher of Wallingford and Lloyd Boone of Estherville, one brother, Rome Ladd of Traer, one step-son, Robert Macdonald of Chicago, and 14 grandchildren.
Her former husband, Dr. Charles Boone and one son, Levi, preceded her in death. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, January 11, 1935)

Funeral Services at M.E. Church Saturday for Esteemed Woman
Death came at two fifteen Thursday afternoon to relieve the suffering of Mrs. F.A. Macdonald, ill for several years with cancer. Mrs. Macdonald’s had been a life of service and her kindly presence will be sorely missed by many friends as well as by the immediate members of her family.Mary Ellen Ladd was born Jan. 21, 1870 at Traer. She grew to womanhood at that place and was married when 17 years of age to Dr. Charles Boone. Dr. Boone passed away in 1908. One of their three children Levi died in 1917. After the death of her husband Mrs. Boone cared for her aged parents until their death.In 1927 she came to Estherville where her son Lloyd N. Boone resides and near to her daughter Mrs. Nels Osher. She was married that year to F.A. Macdonald, former county engineer. She is survived by her husband, two children, a stepson Robert Macdonald of Chicago, one brother R.J. Ladd of Traer and 14 grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at two thirty from the M.E. church with Rev. Fred Ortmeyer in charge, following short prayer service at the home. Interment was made in the Armstrong cemetery.
Mrs. Macdonald was a member of several social and fraternal organizations including the Eastern Star, White Shrine, Rebekahs, of which she was a past noble grand, W.C.T.U. and Woman’s club. Members of these groups attended the services in a body. She was an active and interested member in these organizations as well as of the Methodist Episcopal church.
Pall bearers were Guy Noel, Ralph McKay, J.M. Hale, R.R. Knox, Oscar Fagre, and Roy J. Brown.
Those from out of town attending the services were Robert Macdonald and Mrs. Maude Corse of Chicago, Mary Isabelle Boone and Levi Boone of Reinbeck, Mr. and Mrs. R.J. Mrs. F.A. MacDonald Died – Funeral Rites Were Held Saturday
Mrs. F.A. MacDonald, who has been a long time sufferer, passed away at her home on the west side of the river last Thursday afternoon.,Mrs. MacDonald was a well known woman in this city, having been connected with many social organizations in the city. She is a woman of whom it can be said her friends were numbered by her acquaintances. She was born in Traer January 12, 1870, where she grew to womanhood. She has always been an active woman and by her gentle ways has acquired a host of friends wherever she resided.,
She was married to Dr. Chas. Boone when a mere girl and there are still living a son and a daughter, Lloyd Boone of this city and Mrs. Nels Osher of Wallingford.
Mrs. MacDonald came to Estherville in 1927 and that same year was united in marriage to F.A. MacDonald, then county engineer of this county.
The funeral services were held on Saturday from the M.E. church, the Rev. Fred Ortmeyer officiating. Interment was made in Armstrong.
