John Slaba’s Sister Dies at Armstrong
Funeral services were held at the Presbyterian church at Armstrong at 2 p.m., last Tuesday for Mrs. John Kingston of that city and a sister of John Slaba. Born Mae [Jennie Mae] Slaba, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. L.M. Slaba of Buffalo Center on January 18, 1902, she grew up in this vicinity and graduated from Buffalo Center high school. She was married to John Kingston of Armstrong, July 22, 1920 and lived the rest of her married life there.She passed away at the Holy Family hospital at Estherville last Saturday [November 30, 1957], from cancer. She had been ailing for about five years and was seriously ill for the past two months. She was long prominent in the Eastern Star and all activities of the Presbyterian church and was a member of the Interlaken golf club for a number of years.
Surviving are her husband and three children: Mrs. Ralph Peterson of Garden Grove, California; Mrs. Joe Madden of Estherville, and Judith, a student at Iowa State College. Also two brothers: John and L.E. Slaba of Armstrong. Another brother, Ubbe, preceded her in death.
Rev. Alex Orr officiated at the last rites and burial was in the Armstrong Grove cemetery. Mrs. Kingston is well known and remembered here, and The Tribune joins her many friends in expressing sincere sympathy for the loss of this charming and noble wife and mother. Mr. and Mrs. A.C. Schissel, Mrs. H.H. Murray, Mrs. H.D. Mussman, Mrs. Ida Smith and Mr. and Mrs. W.E. Ley attended the funeral of Mrs. John Kingston at Armstrong Tuesday afternoon. (Kossuth County Advance, Algona, IA, December 10, 1957)
