Allie Watland Dies; Rites Are Monday
Allie Watland, 71, of Estherville, died at 5:30 a.m. today at Holy Family Hospital. Death was caused by a lingering illness.

Mr. Watland was born June 1, 1888 in the Dolliver area [per WW I draft registration, Armstrong], son of Mr. and Mrs. John Watland. He received his education in the Dolliver and Armstrong area schools and grew to manhood in this locality.

Mr. Watland moved to Minneapolis as a young man where he lived for several years.

After his marriage in 1919 to Alma Tuey, he and his wife homesteaded in Montana for 10 years. They returned to Armstrong, where they lived for several years, and then moved back to Minneapolis.

Mrs. Watland was killed in a tornado at Mankato in 1945 [1946]. After her death, Mr. Watland returned to Armstrong and was married to Isabell Tordoff at Ringsted, June 1, 1947. They farmed in that area for six years and then moved to Estherville, where they have lived since. Mr. Watland worked in a canvas repair shop here.

Survivors include his wife, one son, Lloyd Watland, Newport News, Va.; four step-sons, Henry Tordoff, Estherville; Russell Tordoff, Lake Mills; Luverne Tordoff, Portsmith, VA., Bill Tordoff, Algona, and two step-daughters, Mrs. Don Randol, Des Moines; and Mrs. Leo Zinnel, Estherville. Also surviving are 19 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Others surviving include two brothers, Eli Watland, Staples, Minn., and Ed Watland, Beaverton, Ore., and two sisters, Mrs. Jennie Clem, Minneapolis, and Mrs. Irene Solheim of Graettinger.

Mr. Watland was preceded in death by is firt wife, Alma, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Watland, four brothers, and two sisters.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, with the Rev. T.W. Maakestad officiating. Friends may call from Saturday until 11 a.m. Monday at Sandin-Fuhrman Funeral Home. The body will be taken to the Estherville Lutheran Church to lie in state until time of services. The casket will not be opened following the services. Burial will be in Armstrong Grove cemetery.
