Spirit Lake Man’s Rites Thursday in Armstrong
Armstrong – Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in Reese-Henry Chapel, Armstrong, for Donald Elijah Cayler, 74, Spirit Lake.

The Rev. Donahue Sarff will officiate at the services. Burial will be made in Armstrong Grove Cemetery. Friends may call at Reese-Henry, Armstrong, until time of services on Thursday.

Mr. Cayler died Monday night, Feb. 25, in his home in Spirit Lake. He had been born July 6, 1899 at Dolliver to Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Cayler. He was educated in Dolliver schools. On Dec. 19, 1929 he was married to Mabel Danielson in Cedar Rapids. They farmed north of Estherville until 1936 when they moved to a farm near Gruver. In the early 1940s, they moved to a farm near Spirit Lake, and in 1966 they moved into Spirit Lake.

He is survived by his wife, Mabel of Spirit Lake; one foster daughter, Mrs. Burt (Carol) Thompson, Spirit Lake; two foster grandchildren; three brothers, Emmet Cayler of Williams, Robert Cayler of Waterloo and Lawrence Cayler of Decorah; two sisters, Mrs. Corwin Keith, Estherville and Mrs. Paul Anderson, Dolliver.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, February 27, 1974)
