Mary Ann Elwess Dyer 1855-1934

Mrs. Mary A. [Ann] Dyer, a former Armstrong resident, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Ben Owens, in Martin county, Minn., Thursday [December 20, 1934]. She was within two weeks of being 80 years of age.

Born in Wisconsin in 1855 [Jan], Mrs. Dyer came to Minnesota at the age of six with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Elwess. They settled in Watonivan county, later moving to Martin county.

She was united in marriage to George H. Dyer and they came to Silver Lake to make their home on Mr. Dyer’s homestead. They moved to Armstrong in 1896, where Mr. Dyer died in 1914. Ms. Dyer continued to live in Armstrong until about five years ago when she made her home with the Owens family. She is survived by two sons and a daughter, Louis Dyer, of Long Beach; Arthur Dyer, also of California and Mrs. Owens. Another daughter, Mrs. Alice Robbins, died in Des Moines, eight years ago. Funeral services were held Sunday at 2 pm. at the Owens home and 2:30 pm. at the East Chain Methodist church. Rev. H.G. Bachman of Armstrong and Rev. C.H. Miller of Fairmont officiating. Burial was at Armstrong. (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, December 26, 1934)
