Critically Injured in Car Crash
Chester Dunn, 25, of Armstrong, is in critical condition in Holy Family Hospital today after he sustained injuries Saturday night in a traffic accident while driving home alone from Fairmont between noon and 1 p.m. His car struck ice and flipped over.Dunn was admitted to Holy Family Hospital Sunday and this morning underwent surgery for a lacerated spleen, lacerated liver and lacerated pancreas.
Mr. and Mrs. Roy Dunn, parents of Chester, said that a friend had taken Chester to a hospital in Fairmont shortly after the accident where he was checked over and released.
He came home later they said, but at 8 p.m. his chest began paining him and he was brought to Holy Family Hospital. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, December 9, 1963)
Off Critical List
Chester Dunn, 25, Armstrong, is reported as being off the critical list at Holy Family Hospital today by his attending physician. His physician now describes his condition as being serious. Dunn is reported by have passed the critical period Saturday night. Dunn was injured in an automobile accident south of Fairmont Saturday afternoon, Dec. 7, when his car struck ice and flipped over into a ditch along Minnesota Highway 15. He was reportedly taken to the Fairmont Community Hospital for examination and was later released. After suffering pain later that night, he was brought to Holy Family Hospital where he underwent surgery for lacerated spleen, liver and pancreas. Armstrong – A rural Armstrong man died yesterday of injuries he received in an automobile accident near Fairmont, Dec. 7.He is Chester Kermit Dunn, 25, who was admitted to Holy Family Hospital again Sunday after having been hospitalized there previously because of the injuries. He died last night at the hospital about 8:15.
He reportedly was taken to the Fairmont hospital, but was released after examination. He later was admitted to the Holy Family Hospital in Estherville where he remained until Jan. 15. Death was attributed to internal bleeding.
He was born April 28, 1938, at Armstrong and was graduated from Armstrong High School in 1956. He has been farming for himself three and a half miles southeast of Armstrong.
Survivors include his parents, three sisters, Alice Dunn, Armstrong; Mrs. James Bittner, Maquoketa, and Marjorie Dunn of Ames. A brother, Glenn, of Armstrong also survives.
Dunn was a member of the Methodist Church of Armstrong where funeral services have tentatively been set for Friday afternoon. Slaba Funeral Home of Armstrong is in charge of arrangements. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, January 22, 1964)
Dunn Rites Tomorrow
Armstrong – Funeral services for Chester Dunn of Armstrong, who died Tuesday [January 21, 1964] of injuries he received in an automobile accident near Fairmont, Dec. 7, will be held tomorrow at 2 p.m. in the First Methodist Church in Armstrong with family services at 1:30, the Rev. Roger Tappner officiating. Burial is to be in the Armstrong Grove Cemetery. Slaba Funeral Home of Armstrong is in charge of arrangements. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, January 23, 1964)
