Services for Clarence Carr AreThursday
Clarence W. [Wilson] Carr, 66, a resident of the Emmet county and Estherville area for 45 years, died yesterday morning at the Edwards Rest Home at Spirit Lake. He had been in poor health for the past three years.Mr. Carr was born April 27, 1886 [per 2 different WWI draft records, 1887 or 1885; Cemetery records state 1886] in Mitchell county, Iowa and spent his early life there but lived for the last 45 years in the Emmet county and Estherville vicinities. He farmed near Armstrong for several years and for many years was employed on the Rock Island railroad at Armstrong, Estherville and Superior. He retired four years ago.
Mr. Carr was a member of the Armstrong Methodist church.
He is survived by six children, Mrs. Stanley Vohs of Ceylon, Clarence E. Carr of Estherville, Raymond Carr of San Antonio, Tex., Mrs. Arnold Loveland of Liberal, Wisc., and Mrs. Leroy Huntley of Estherville; 12 grandchildren and two sisters, Mrs. Warren Whitcomb of Austin, Minn., and Mrs. Joe Simmons of Los Angeles.
His wife [Edith M. Goldsberry Carr] preceded him in death two years ago.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Strernborg Funeral home and at 2 pm. at the Presbyterian church in Armstrong. The Rev. Alex Orr of Armstrong will conduct the services. Burial will be in the Armstrong cemetery. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, September 9, 1952)
