Cornelius Baird Canon was born August 12 [1861] in Sullivan County, New York. He passed into the great beyond at the home of his son, Leslie, in Nashville community on August 25, 1936, at the age of 75 years and 13 days.

Rev. Canon moved with his parents to Trumble County, Ohio in 1867, to Ogle County, in Illinois in 1868. They moved to Armstrong, Iowa in 1872 where he grew to manhood with the experiences common to pioneer life. At the age of 21 he entered Iowa College, now Grinnell, at Grinnell, Iowa. Alternating teaching and attending school he completed the A. B. course in 1891, attending Ohio Weslayan the last two years.

In 1891 he united with the Northwest Iowa M. E. Conference. This same year he was united in marriage with Nellie Maude Holman of Grinnell, Iowa, who preceded him in death in 1929. Six children came to their home. Two passed on in early childhood, Christine and Alvin.

His Pastorates in the Methodist Conference were at Dowan, Garner, Rutland, Dakota City, and Whittemore, all in Iowa.

In 1906 Rev. Canon moved to Minnesota and united with the United Brethren Church. There he served the following charges: Elmira, Hewitt, Wrightstown, Pleasant Prairie, Basey, Grey Eagle and Browerville.

Rev Canon retired from active service in 1929. Since that time he has made his home with his children, doing substitute pastoral work at Huntley, Brainerd and Nashville.

He is survived by four children, Clarence and Leslie of Truman, Mrs. Mildred Bunn of Wadena, and Myrvan of Oakland, Nebraska, one sister, Mrs. A. T. Clark of Lincoln, Nebraska, fifteen grandchildren, besides many distant relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted from the home of Leslie Canon on Thursday (today) at 1:00 o'clock and at 1:30 from
the Basey church. Burial will be made in the family lot at Armstrong.

Pallbearers are: Bert Harris, Geo. Wilkinson, Bert Hall, R. S. Patchin, Wm. McDonald and Frank Marsh. (Truman Tribune, Truman, MN, August 27, 1936)
