Armstrong Man Dies After Illness
Samuel Abraham Butcher, 76, a long-time resident of the Armstrong area, died yesterday at his home in Armstrong after a five year lingering illness.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the First Methodist Church in Armstrong, Rev. Roger Tappmeyer officiating.

Samuel Butcher was born June 3, 1888, in Columbus Junction, the son of John and Sarah Butcher. He received his education in Muscatine and was a graduate of Browning Business College in Muscatine.

He was married in 1921 to Hazel Craig Hanson in Armstrong.

He was a farmer in Kossuth County for 42 years. He farmed north and east of Armstrong until his retirement in 1960, when he moved into Armstrong.

He was active in county and civic affairs. He was a rural mail carrier, county clerk and secretary for his area of the county and worked with the AAA for several years.

He is survived by his wife; one step son, Verle, of Burnsvile, Minn.; and two sisters, Ethel Emmons of Arvada, Calif., and Mayme Colton of Columbus Junction.

Burial will be in Armstrong Grove Cemetery. Slaba Funeral Home is in charge of services.

Friends may call at the funeral home from Tuesday morning until Wednesday noon, when the casket will be taken to the church. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, June 14, 1965)
