Last Rite for Mrs. Ernest Burkhead Held
Last rites for Mrs. Ernest J. Burkhead, 76, were conducted Monday afternoon Oct. 26, at two o’clock from the First Methodist church at Armstrong with the Rev. S.E. Polovina officiating. Burial was made in Armstrong Grove cemetery.

Minnie Burkhead, the eldest child of Lawrence and Louisa Berggren was born at Seneca, Sept. 1, 1877, and died at her home in Armstrong Saturday afternoon Oct. 24. She had reached the age of 76 years one month and 23 days. She had been in failing health for several months.

Her life was spent in the Swea City and Armstrong communities. On March 6, 1901, she was united in marriage to E.J. Burkhead. The first two years of their marriage were spent in Truman, Minn. and they also lived two years at Trego, Wis., the rest of their life together was spent here.

Five children were born to this union, one dying in infancy.

She was a member of the Methodist church since girlhood, being faithful in attendance and in all church activity as long as her health permitted.

Survivors include her husband, two sons, Lyle of Salina, Kan., and Arnold of Armstrong; two daughters, Mrs. Ernest Johnson, Springville and Mrs. Leonard Madden, Armstrong; seven grandchildren, Joe Madden, Mary and Robert Johnson, Alice, Ann, Arlene and Don Burkhead; one sister, Mrs. Clifford Anderson, Swea City; and five brothers, Fred and Oscar of Swea City, Edward of Estherville, Walter of Lead, S.D., and Harry of San Diego, Calif.
