Pioneer of Armstrong Dies at 80
Mrs. Margaret May Brooks, 80, one of the oldest native residents of Armstrong, died last night at Good Samaritan Rest Home here where she had resided for the past year. Death was due to infirmities of old age.

Mrs. Brooks was born Oct. 17, 1877 at Armstrong, the daughter of Harry K. and Ellen Holland. When a small child she moved with her parents to the St. James, Wis. area where they lived for eight years before returning to Armstrong.

On Jan. 24, 1900 she was united in marriage to Thomas E. Brooks, one of the persons instrumental in the early growth of Armstrong. The couple lived their entire married life at Armstrong with the exception of 11 years during which time they resided at Albert Lea, Minn., and Charles City, returning to Armstrong in 1936.

Mrs. Brooks was a lifetime member of the First Presbyterian church at Armstrong.

Survivors are two sons, Francis E. of Huron, Ohio and Thomas H. of Grand Junction, Colo.; two grandchildren, one of whom, Mrs. Harry Vigdal of Armstrong was reared in the Brooks home; three great grandchildren; and two brothers and one sister, Stanley Holland of Manitowac, Wis., Percy Holland of Dolliver, and Miss Adelaide Holland of Des Moines.

She was preceded in death by her husband, two daughters, one son, her parents, two brothers and two sisters.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the First Presbyterian church in Armstrong, the Rev. William Niles of the Gruver Presbyterian church officiating. Burial will be in Armstrong Grove Cemetery.
