Sylvia Lilland Sunde, 96, of rural Estherville, died on Mar. 26, 2010, at Rosewood Manor.

Born Sept. 2, 1913, in Jewell, IA, to Ole and Selma Lilland, she attended school in Armstrong, graduated from Emmet Consolidated north of Estherville, trained as a teacher at Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls, and taught two years in rural schools near Dolliver. She married Elvin Sunde in 1934, and they farmed northeast of Estherville until retirement. She was active in the Palestine Lutheran Church near Dolliver until it closed and in Farm Bureau Women and was a 4-H leader for many years. Her husband Elvin preceded her in death in 1995.

Surviving are her four children, Charles Sunde (Kolleen) of Fargo, ND; Jean Peterson (Reuben) of West Lafayette, IN, Thomas Sunde, who lives on the family farm northeast of Estherville, and Connie (Ronald) Krosschell of Mesa, AZ, as well as six grandchildren, Abby Tow, Beau Sunde, Benjamin Sunde, Sonia Peterson, Nathan Peterson, and Rockford Krosschell. Also surviving are two sisters, Janice Weir of Estherville and Lorrene Gellings of Milwaukee, WI.

Two brothers and one sister preceded her in death.

Interment: Palestine Lutheran Cemetery, Dolliver, IA
