Estherville – Funeral services for Marian P. Valen, 78, of Estherville will be at 1:30 pm. Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2006, at Estherville Lutheran Church in Estherville with Pastor Susan Stone officiating. Interment will follow at Palestine Lutheran Church in Dolliver. She passed away Thursday, Feb. 23, 2006 at Hillcrest Nursing Home in Bellevue, Neb.Visitation will be from 4 – 8 p.m. Monday at Henry-Olson Funeral Chapel in Estherville.
Marian Pauline Peterson, the daughter of Peter and Minnie (Askeland) Peterson, was born July 16, 1927, in Ringsted.
She was baptized and confirmed at Nazareth Lutheran Church in Armstrong. Marian graduated from Ringsted High School.
On Aug. 18, 1946, Marian was united in marriage to LaVerne Valen in Armstrong. Following their marriage the couple made their home, raised their family and were engaged in farming on the same farm where LaVerne was born. Besides working hand in hand with LaVerne in the daily farm operations, Marian also enjoyed cooling, baking, sewing, quilting and gardening. LaVerne died Aug. 8, 2002.
She was a past member of Palestine Lutheran Church in Dolliver where she was very active in teaching Sunday School and being involved in Ladies Aide. Marian was a member of Estherville Lutheran Church and also a member of VFW Post 3388 Auxiliary.
Left to cherish Marian’s memory are her children, Larry Valen of Estherville; Janice Valen of Papillion, Neb.; Joni Parks and her husband, Eric of Papillion; son-in-law, Larry Klem of Plano, Texas; five grandchildren, Katherine; Brittany, Courtney, Tea, and Jaedyn Parks of Papillion; brothers and sisters, Veloris Dotson of Humboldt; Kenneth Peterson and his wife, Lois of Minneapolis, Minn.; Maurice Peterson and his wife, Mary of Fairmont, Minn.; and Martha Natterstad and her husband, John of Estherville.
Preceding Marian in death were her husband, LaVerne; daughter, Eileen Ruth Klem; parents; two sisters, Ruth Marie and Clarice; and one brother, Harlan. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, February 28, 2006)
