Houston, Texas – Edwin J. [James] Rhodes, 83, former Estherville resident, died Sept. 26, Houston, Texas. Services and burial were in Houston.

Mr. Rhodes was the son of Mr. and Mrs. F.H. Rhodes and was born in Estherville. He attended local schools and was a graduate of the University of Wisconsin. He moved to Houston in 1926 after serving in the Army Signal Corps in World War I.

He was affiliated with the Texas Commerce Bank of Houston until his retirement. In recent years he worked as a travel agent.

His survivors include two sons, Allen F. and Edwin J. Jr., both of Houston; a brother, Cecil Rhodes, New York, NY; one granddaughter, Elizabeth Ann Rhodes, Houston; and three grandsons, Stephen H. and Clayton Rhodes, both of Houston, Texas, and James F. Rhodes, Austin, Texas.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Elizabeth Ann (Esther Alene Butler Rhodes]; and two sisters, Mrs. Arnold (Jenny) Moon and Lillian Rhodes, both of Tucson, Ariz. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, October 18, 1978)
