OBITUARY TOLLEF O. SANDO

Tollef O. Sando was born at Rock Prairie, Wisconsin, the 21s day of December 1845. In the year 1849, Tollef Sando’s parents moved to Clayton county, Iowa. Here they lived for four years and then moved to Mitchell county, Iowa. In 1863 they came to Emmet county and took a homestead near Wallingford where both the parents of Mr. Sando lived until their death. In the year 1871, the 22nd day of August, Tollef O. Sando was joined in holy wedlock to Miss Bergit Sando. Rev. T. H. Dahl performing the marriage. This union was blessed with nine children of whom four have passed to the Beyond, vis., Helen, or Mrs. Michael Lillehaugen; Mrs. Emma Storey, Otto and Ferdinand.

For the last two years Mr. Sando has gradually been failing in health and especially the last year. The doctors proclaimed it to be leakage of the heart and hardening of the arteries. Friday evening, June 6th, he passed peacefully away. H was at his death 78 years, five months and sixteen days old. Those to mourn the loss of a dear father, grandfather and great grandfather are Mrs. Gustav Gilbert, Randina and Beatta Sando all of Wallingford, Erick Sando of Ringsted, Iowa, Herman Sando of Jackson, Minn., fifteen grandchildren and two great grandchildren. One sister, Mrs. Sven Nestegaard of Michigan, North Dakota, one brother Germund Sando, Starbroook, Minnesota, and his sister-in-law, Mrs. Pastor O. Sando, Colton, South Dakota, who was present at the funeral.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 10th, both at the house and the Lutheran church. Pallbearers were Samuel Larson, Ole Myhre, L.L. Gunderson, Nels Anderson, Halvor Egertson and J. O. Kasa. Rev. T. Hansen performed the funeral services assisted by Prof. S. Strand. A host of relatives, friends and neighbors gathered to pay the last respect to this venerable and beloved pioneer. The casket was laden with wreaths, bouquets and flowers.

Mr. Sando was a quiet, lovable character whom all had to respect and admire. He will be greatly missed in the community and especially in the church where he always appeared and took part until sickness prevented him from meeting up in God’s House.

The last time he entered the church was his dear wife’s funeral, taken there in a rolling chair and only two months after he had this long felt wish fulfilled to follow her into the Eternal life where sickness, sorrow and parting is all past.

May God bless the children who feel the loss of both the parents whom so shortly after one another left them. May he gather them all on the last day to His Heavenly home above. Rev. T. Hansen. (Vindicator and Republican, Estherville, IA, June 18, 1924)
